NCC Flag

The NCC flag for various units of the NCC was first introduced in 1951. The flag was of the same pattern, colour and size as was used by various regiments of the Army. The only difference was that the NCC badge and unit designation were placed in the centre. Later on, it was felt that the flag should be in keeping with the inter-service character of the Corps. In 1954 the existing tricolour flag was introduced. The three colours in the flag depict the three services of the Corps, red for the Army, deep blue for the Navy and light blue for the Air Force. The letters NCC and the NCC crest in gold in the middle of the flag encircled by a wreath of lotus, give the flag a colourful look and a distinct identity.

GENESIS OF NCC

  1. ****University Corps was formed under the Indian Defense Act of 1917 with the objective to make up for a shortage of personnel in the Army.
  2. ‘University Corps’ was replaced by the University Training Corps (UTC) under the Indian Territorial Act in 1920 to attract more youths. UTC Officers and cadets wear Army uniforms.
  3. ****UTC was renamed to University Officers Training Corps (UOTC) in 1942 by the British Government. It was done to indulge more leadership qualities in the cadets.
  4. ****UOTC was unable to fulfil the expectations of the British Government during World War 2. So, the implementation of new schemes was felt. In Sep 1946, a Cadet Corps Committee was formed, headed by Pt. HN Kunzru.
  5. ****Finally, the National Cadet Corps was formed on 15th July 1948, which was only for the Army Boys Wing. In 1949, the Girls Division was also formed. In 1950, the Air Force Wing came into existence. And in 1952, Naval Wing was formed.

Duties of an NCC Cadet

An NCC cadet once enrolled has certain duties and responsibilities, unlike his/her peers in the institution. The duties and responsibilities are towards the nation, society at large, his institution, the NCC organization and his fellow cadets.

  6. Take part in the cultural activities organized by the NCC.

Attend all NCC parades regularly without fail.

  1. Participate in teamwork.
  2. Extend complete cooperation to the seniors.
  3. Pursue adventure activities.

Responsibilities of an NCC Cadet

An NCC cadet, by the very fact of being an active cadet, has to shoulder extra responsibilities, unlike his/her fellow classmates who are not members of NCC. His/Her responsibilities are nowhere written but obligatory as an outcome of his/her training. Thus, he or she fulfills the main aims of NCC, i.e., becoming a potential leader with character qualities and a responsible citizen. He/She has separate responsibilities to his NCC unit, organization, institution, society, and country. That includes active participation in social awareness initiatives, environmental issues, disaster relief, adventure and sports activities, and other nation-building efforts. It doesn’t end with his NCC training at his/her institution but has to be carried forward to all the fields where he/she will be engaged in the future too. Thus, with the passage of time, the country would have past NCC cadets occupying leadership positions in all walks of life, espousing the noble values and objectives of NCC.
